UnderEmployment Woes

While we were taking our lunch at the office, a close friend of mine confided that he is already contemplating on resigning. The reason? He feels that he is under-employed. He graduated with degree in computer science but he was doing clerical and administrative jobs. But he is having second thoughts since he is the bread winner in his family. He is caught between pursuing a work related to his field of studies which he failed to gain expertise and exposure since his work was not related to his course and between losing a job and a couple of paydays while finding his place in the job market.

There are many cases of under-employment in our country due to the scarcity of jobs available. It is really hard to find great job opportunities, this is the very reason why there are many of those who graduated in college will opt to take jobs even if it is not relevant to his field of study. Some graduated with a degree in computer science but landed as a call center agent. Others graduated with a degree in engineering but opted to be a caregiver abroad. Most of the time, the newly graduates will grab every chance to immediately work and the call center is a very conducive place to have one.

Let us just be hopeful that in time, our country will be able to provide enough jobs so there will be no unemployment, no underemployment and no surge of workers seeking for greener pasture abroad. Where do we start from here, I do not know. But perhaps, it should start with our government. Hmmmmmmm, sounds like wishful thinking. Well, that is what we can do the most right now.
