We all know that the economy is not doing well. One manifestation is the surge of manpower that opts to work abroad as Overseas Foreign Worker (OFW). They are seeking opportunity elsewhere because there is a scarcity of jobs in the country. My husband is no difference; he seeks for greener pasture abroad not because he has no work, but because he is under-employed. Yes, folks, “unemployment” and “under-employment” are just one of the economic problems in the Philippines.
Wikipedia definition:
“Unemployment occurs when a person is available and willing to work but currently without work.”
“Underemployment describes the employment of workers with high skill levels in low-wage jobs that do not require such abilities.”
I just hope that the there would be sufficient jobs in our country. Jobs that will fully utilize the skills, knowledge and capabilities of every Filipinos. Good jobs that will give us enough to provide a very decent and comfortable life. If that happens, perhaps, no OFW will sacrifice to leave their families here and work abroad. Although others regard working abroad is a privilege, I as a member of “Pamilyang OFW” regard it otherwise, it as a life full of sacrifice. If only our country can provide that much, then perhaps, there is no need to be away from one another.
