Happy Birthday My Dear Mommy – the Best Lola

I think of you in every single day of my life.
I miss you so much my Mommy.
I am what I am because you raise me up this way.
It is just sad that now that I have more in life
You are now gone
and cannot share my blessings in life with you.

You have been with me during my lowest.
How I wish that you are here with me at my best.

In God’s hands you are with
But I know that you are my angel looking after me and my family always.

You are the best Lola in the world
that someone can ever have.

How I miss you and the knowledge that you are just at my side
I love you and I miss you Mommy Ko.

When time comes, I will see you again.

Happy Birthday My Dear Mommy – the Best Lola

Paskong Pamilyang OFW

As I am writing this post, I had just finished chatting with my OFW husband over the Internet. It is already 2:30 Am and I cannot catch my sleep. I have so many things running in my mind. Sadness engulfs my being right now. I know that I am not the only one experiencing this emotion; I know that I am one with other Pamilyang OFW around the world.

This is how we typically celebrate every occasion in our family.

Xmas Away From Papa

As a pamilyang OFW, Christmas season like this are usually a mixed bag of emotions, as a Mom, I have to make the mood happy and jovial for our children despite of the loneliness of being estranged to our dear OFW loved ones. Many occasions in our lives has already passed without dear hubby, but thanks God to the wonders of technology, we were able to catch up with one another and be together even virtually.

I know that we have a choice, but right now this is a choice and sacrifice that our family has to make. We had set our goals and long term plans for our family and our kids. In time we will be together once again, to celebrate every occasion in our lives.

Just this morning, I saw this FB status of my eldest Ishi and it really warms my heart. Though we may be apart what really makes me happy is the fact that my kids knew why their Papa is not with us and likewise they also knew the sacrifices and purpose why dear papa has to work abroad apart from us.

Considering to be a Pamilyang OFW, consider this OFW way of celebrating Christmas.

Manila Bay Sunset Cruise

I was able to buy a good deal at pakyaw.com.ph (one of the groupon site in the Philippines). The promo was Sun Cruises’ Manila Bay Cruise! originally priced at Php550 and I was able to purchase the deal at Php188 (66% off, whereas I was able to save Php362.

The promo was very timely in celebration for my Mama’s birthday.

Based on my research over the Internet, you are really paying for the 1 hour and 15 minute experience so don’t expect much on the food, although the cruise package comes with set dinner. With that as a mindset all 21 of us took the second trip at the Manila Bay Sunset Cruise of aboard M/V Spirit of Manila. Yes, we are all 21 in all – well, that is how we usually are in our family; we would usually go by that numbers though it is just typical malling. Family bonding to the max I might say…..it is really happy and fun to have a big family.

I reserved our slot 2 weeks ahead of our desired schedule. There are 3 trips:
Sailing schedule:

  • 1st sailing: 4:30pm to 5:45pm
  • 2nd sailing: 6:15pm to 7:30pm
  • 3rd sailing: 8:00pm to 9:15pm

We selected the 2nd trip, just in time to capture the fireworks at MOA, the captivating sunset and the lights of nearby buildings which is an attraction in itself.

The schedule started promptly, but we are advice to be there earlier for the registration. There is also ample parking for your vehicles just in case you will be bringing one.

It is the first time of our kids and teens to travel thru water, so that along was an experienced to cherish.

The dinner was served promptly and since we did not expect much on the food, we are not disappointed. The serving was small but it was delicious. But that is fine since we also had plans to eat out after the cruise.

Manila Sunset Crusie Set Dinner

An acoustic duo was aboard to provide entertainment. The singer’s voice is soothing and provides an ambiance to the entirety of the cruise. We also asked her to sing a Happy Birthday to our Mama who was basically crying her heart’s out due to happiness.

After the dinner, of course comes the camera whoring. We moved towards the front part of the ship and of we do the strutt.

Tips:
- reserve early to really get the time desired. We originally planned i the birthday of my Mama but it was already fully booked so we had delayed our cruise 2 weeks after.

- be there 30 minutes early

- get on the ship ahead of others so you can have the best seat. Although you are reserved the table seats are on a first come first serve basis.

- during reservation, choose upper deck. It is always nice to feel the breeze of the air during the cruise. Lower deck btw is air conditioned.

- for a voracious eater like my family, don’t expect much on the food, the serving is really small. So be there full or have a plan B eat out right after.

To cap our experience, it was indeed a moment to cherish. Any moment spent with my family is always the best. Too bad that my OFW hubby was not with.

After our Manila Bay Cruise, we headed to Dampa Macapagal for our Plan B – the real family dinner to the max

On a sad note though the experience is worthwhile, I can’t help but be saddened with the sad plight of Manila Bay, although you will not see it at night. We are there early so we sat that There are lots of garbage floating.Just to do our share to Mother Nature we advise our kids to be responsible in throwing their waste. This makes them aware of the little things they can do to save Mother Earth.

My Son’s Yellow Belt Taekwondo Promotion

Being a Mom is the most rewarding role one can ever have. Seeing them grow and become achiever on their own is equally an added feather to the cap.

Allow me to a Proud Momma, just let me brag and took pride on the simple achievement of my son Patrick. Actually, this is a long overdue post but please forgive the working mom and blogging mama, I am really finding it hard to fit on my blogging life since I am really pre-occupied with work and being a Mama.

Patrick is now a TKD Yellow Belter

Last November 20, 2011, Patrick took his Taekwondo promotional test at his school in Our Lady of Lasallete, Bulacan.

Seeing him in his forms makes me really happy and proud. I had captured it in video so that his OFW papa will be able to witness it though he may be far from us. Officially, little Icko has been promoted to Yellow Belt.

I am happy that he is into sports since it teaches him to be more disciplined and focus.  It is a good venue for interaction too.  I love him seeing him laugh, have fun with his TKD classmates.  Apart from the health benefits of having a sport, I just want to see him enjoy what he is doing.

It is my husband who passed his interest and enthusiasm to our son, since he is also into Taekwondo during his younger days.

It is just coincidental that Grand Master Hong Sung Chon (Chief Instructor of the Philippines Taekwondo Association) was the same person who promoted both my husband and my son in their Taekwondo Test. I so love his word of wisdom shared to the kids that day.

  • You may not win in your competition but that does not mean that you are a looser. You are a winner because you tried your best, to the best of your ability.
  • Your greatest opponent is yourself.
  • Study Hard.

Of course special thanks goes to his coaches for patiently imparting the knowledge, skills and techniques to our son.

I am really seeing my son excel in this sport because he was hone by his Papa to love TKD. He wants to be a champion and compete in the near future. OFW Papa is already saving for our future so he can be home soon, he loves to be his son’s personal assistant, trainer, and motivator – when that time comes.

Patrick, study hard, always be a good boy. We will always support you in every inch of the way. You are our little champion – Papa, Mama and Ate Ishi

Behind a Happy Me – is My Family

Modesty aside, I have a good knack of sense of humor. I can easily put wit and humor on just about anything without being offensive. I can say that I am a situational comedianne. Perhaps this is the very reason why time immemorial, I would often be task to host company Christmas parties, family occasions, school programs, birthdays, even wedding and the likes. Hahahaha, I would be the cheapest replacement to Pokwang for all your party needs coz I don’t charge and I can do it all for love.

There was even an instance when someone asked me, if I am the same jolly person that I am when I am in front of my dear husband and kids. Why not choconut? I am the same person when I am with my family perhaps even more jolly since I am comfortable being with them.

I will be turning 40 next year but I can easily jive even with the teens and just about any age that I interact.

Do you want to know my secret of being happy and gay…..If you think I’m awesome, crazy, and fun, you should meet the people that made me that way: MY FAMILY!
